Introduction

P&K

Bletilla Striata Polysaccharide (BSP) is the primary bioactive component extracted from the dried tubers of the Bletilla striata orchid (known as "Baiji"). It is a natural, water-soluble glucomannan with a high molecular weight.

Historically used as a hemostatic agent, modern pharmacology has validated BSP as a potent bio-adhesive and cytoprotective agent. It serves as a dual-function ingredient: a premium Gastroprotective Agent in nutraceuticals (for ulcer recovery) and a luxurious Film-Forming Humectant in high-end cosmetics (anti-aging and sensitive skin repair). We offer high-purity BSP (80%-90%) with controlled viscosity for formulation stability.

Functions

1.Gastrointestinal Mucosa Protection

BSP has a unique high-viscosity structure that allows it to adhere to the gastric wall, forming a physical barrier against acid and pepsin. It accelerates the healing of gastric ulcers by promoting epithelial cell proliferation and angiogenesis.

2.Wound Healing & Hemostasis

It significantly shortens bleeding time and clotting time. By enhancing the expression of growth factors (VEGF), it accelerates wound closure and reduces scar formation, making it ideal for medical dressings and post-procedure skincare.

3.Anti-Aging & Deep Hydration

As a natural polymer, BSP exhibits superior ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) scavenging activity. It inhibits tyrosinase activity (skin whitening) and holds moisture on the skin surface better than many synthetic polymers due to its film-forming properties.

Applications

1.astrointestinal Health Supplements

• Target: Gastric ulcer recovery, Acid reflux relief, IBS support.

• Form: Powder sachets, Capsules, or Functional sticky gels.

• Mechanism: Physical barrier protection + Anti-inflammatory.

2.Medical Devices & Wound Care

• Target: Hemostatic sponges, Hydrogels for burns, Oral ulcer patches.

• Advantage: Natural bio-compatibility and adhesiveness.

3.Functional Cosmetics (Repairing Series)

• Target: Post-laser recovery creams, Anti-aging serums, Whitening masks.

• Advantage: Provides a "silky" skin feel and instant lifting effect (tightening) upon drying.

Flow Chart

Low-Temperature Extraction to Preserve Glucomannan Structure

1.Raw Material: Dried Bletilla striata tubers (Washed & Sliced).

2.Extraction: Water extraction at controlled temperature (avoiding gelatinization).

3.Clarification: Centrifugation to remove starch and fibers.

4.Precipitation: Ethanol precipitation to isolate the polysaccharides.

5.Deproteinization: Sevag method or Enzymatic treatment to remove proteins.

6.Purification: Dialysis or Resin column (for High Purity grade).

7.Drying: Freeze Drying (Lyophilization) or Spray Drying.

8.Milling: Passing 80 Mesh.

9.QC Testing: Phenol-Sulfuric Acid Assay & Viscosity Check.

10.Packing: Double PE bags in Drum.

Method of Analysis of Lactoferrin

UV-Vis (Phenol-Sulfuric Acid Method) & Viscometer

• Purity: We use the standard colorimetric method for total sugar content.

• Viscosity: Since the functional efficacy (film-forming/adhesion) relies heavily on viscosity, we test every batch with a rotational viscometer to ensure consistency.

Reference Chromatogram of Lactoferrin Reference Substance

The IR spectrum (Infrared Spectroscopy) of our product shows characteristic absorption peaks of polysaccharides (O-H stretching, C-H stretching), and the HPLC fingerprint confirms the specific Mannose/Glucose ratio unique to Bletilla striata, distinguishing it from cheaper starch adulterants.

Stability and Safety

Stability Studies

• Shelf Life: 24 months.

• Storage: Bletilla Polysaccharide is hygroscopic. It must be stored in tightly sealed containers.

• Solution Stability: Aqueous solutions are stable at room temperature but should be preserved to prevent microbial growth. Viscosity decreases slightly at high temperatures (>80°C) or extreme pH.

Safety & Handling (MSDS Summary)

• Classification: Non-hazardous substance.

• Safety: Proven safe for oral consumption and topical application. Non-irritating.

• Handling: Avoid dust inhalation.

• Storage: Cool, dry place away from moisture.

FAQ

What is the difference between Bletilla Powder and Bletilla Polysaccharide?

Bletilla Powder: Ground root, contains starch, fiber, and only ~20% polysaccharide. Low solubility. Bletilla Polysaccharide: Extracted and purified. >80% active content, fully water-soluble, clear solution, and high viscosity. This is what we supply.

Is it effective for whitening?

Yes. Studies show BSP inhibits tyrosinase activity and melanin formation. It is considered a natural whitening agent comparable to Arbutin but with added moisturizing benefits.

Can I use it in an acid-based toner?

Yes, but extreme pH (below 3 or above 10) may reduce its viscosity over time. It is most stable in the pH range of 5.0 - 7.5.
