Introduction

P&K

Naringin is a major bio-flavonoid glycoside found abundantly in grapefruits (Citrus paradisi) and pomelos (Citrus grandis), giving them their characteristic bitter taste.

As a professional manufacturer, we isolate high-purity Naringin (98%) primarily from the immature fruits of Citrus grandis (L.) Osbeck. It serves as a critical raw material in two distinct industries:

1.Flavor Industry: As a natural bittering agent to replace Quinine and modify sucrose perception.

2.Pharma & Synthesis: As the starting material for synthesizing Neohesperidin Dihydrochalcone (NHDC) and as a bioactive API for promoting microcirculation.

Functions

1.Flavor Modulation (Bitter Agent)

• Taste Profile: Distinctive bitter taste at low concentrations.

• Synergy: Enhances the perception of specific flavors and reduces the sweet aftertaste of certain high-intensity sweeteners.

2.Synthesis Precursor (For NHDC)

• Chemical Conversion: Naringin is chemically modified (via alkaline hydrogenation) to produce NHDC (Neohesperidin Dihydrochalcone), a sweetener 1500-1800 times sweeter than sugar with zero bitterness.

3.Bioavailability Enhancer (MOA)

• Enzyme Inhibition: Naringin and its metabolite (Naringenin) inhibit intestinal CYP3A4 enzymes and P-glycoprotein transporters.

4.Cardiovascular & Anti-inflammatory

• Microcirculation: Improves blood fluidity and reduces capillary fragility.

• Lipid Metabolism: Clinical studies suggest it helps lower LDL cholesterol and plasma triglycerides.

Applications

Food & Beverage:

• Tonic Water & Mixers: Natural replacement for Quinine.

• Confectionery: Used to create "sharp" or "adult" flavor profiles (e.g., dark chocolate, citrus candies).

Pharmaceuticals:

• Tablet/Capsule: Used in formulations for lowering blood pressure and cholesterol.

• Syrups: Used to mask unpleasant tastes of other medicines.

Raw Material Synthesis:

• Base material for the production of NHDC (E959) and Naringenin.

Flow Chart

1.Raw Material: Sourcing of Immature Pomelo Fruit (High Naringin content).

2.Extraction: Water/Alcohol extraction under controlled heat.

3.Filtration: Removal of plant fibers and insoluble impurities.

4.Crystallization: Cooling induced crystallization to isolate Naringin.

5.Recrystallization (Critical): Repeated purification to reach 98% Purity.

6.Drying: Vacuum drying at 110℃ to obtain Naringin Dihydrate form.

7.Milling: Pulverization to fine powder (80 mesh).

Method of Analysis of Lactoferrin

High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is the gold standard for Naringin quantification.

• Detector: UV at 283 nm (Characteristic absorption peak of the flavanone structure).

• Column: C18 Reverse Phase.

• Significance: Ensures the distinction between Naringin and other citrus flavonoids (like Rhoifolin) to guarantee potency for NHDC synthesis.

Reference Chromatogram of Lactoferrin Reference Substance

(Image Placeholder: HPLC Chromatogram of Naringin 98%)

A high-quality chromatogram shows a single major peak at the retention time of Naringin (>98% area). Impurities such as Naringenin (the aglycone) should be minimal (<1%).

Stability and Safety

Stability Studies

• Shelf Life: 24 months.

• Heat Stability: Naringin Dihydrate is relatively heat stable, making it suitable for bakery and boiled sweet production.

• Data: Under accelerated conditions (40°C/75% RH), the assay degraded less than 1.5% over 6 months.

Safety & Handling (MSDS Summary)

• Classification: Non-hazardous.

• Handling: Naringin powder can be dusty. Use dust extraction or wear a mask.

• Storage: Store in tightly closed containers. Moisture absorption can lead to caking (hygroscopic nature).

FAQ

What is the difference between Naringin and Naringenin?

Naringin is the glycoside form (sugar attached), while Naringenin is the aglycone (sugar removed). Naringin is bitter and water-soluble; Naringenin is tasteless/bland and less soluble but has higher direct antioxidant activity. We supply both.

Can Naringin be used in beverages?

Yes, it is widely used as a bittering agent in beverages like tonic water, bitter lemon, and energy drinks. It provides a lingering bitterness that complements citrus flavors.

What is the solubility of Naringin?

It is sparingly soluble in cold water (0.1%) but highly soluble in hot water and alcohol. For beverage applications, we recommend dissolving it in hot water or propylene glycol first.
