Introduction

Silymarin (CAS: 65666-07-1) is a standardized flavonoid complex extracted from the seeds of Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum). It consists primarily of Silybin (the most active component), Isosilybin, Silychristin, and Silydianin.
Recognized worldwide as the premier Liver Support Ingredient, Silymarin works by stabilizing hepatocyte membranes and stimulating protein synthesis to accelerate liver regeneration. We manufacture high-potency Silymarin 80% (UV) and Water-Soluble Silymarin customized for Dietary Supplements, Functional Beverages, and Pharmaceutical formulations.

Functions
1.Liver Cell Regeneration & Repair
Silymarin stimulates the enzyme RNA polymerase I in the nucleus of liver cells. This increases ribosomal protein synthesis, boosting the liver's ability to regenerate damaged tissue caused by hepatitis or cirrhosis.

2.Detoxification & Membrane Stabilization
It alters the structure of the outer liver cell membrane, preventing toxins (like Amanita mushroom poison, alcohol, and heavy metals) from penetrating into the cell interior. It also depletes free radicals produced during the detoxification process.
3.Antioxidant & Anti-Inflammatory
As a powerful antioxidant, Silymarin increases intracellular levels of Glutathione (the body's master antioxidant) by up to 35%, effectively combating oxidative stress and reducing liver inflammation (NAFLD).
Applications
1.Dietary Supplements (Liver Health)
• Products: "Hangover Defense" pills, Daily Liver Detox capsules.
• Benefit: The NO.1 consumer-recognized ingredient for liver protection.

2.Pharmaceuticals
• Products: Hepatoprotective drugs (e.g., Silibinin tablets).
• Benefit: Used clinically for supportive treatment of chronic inflammatory liver diseases and toxic liver damage.

3.Animal Nutrition
• Products: Feed additives for poultry and livestock.
• Benefit: Protects animal livers from mycotoxins in feed, improving overall growth performance and meat quality.

Method of Analysis of Lactoferrin
UV-Vis vs. HPLC
• UV (Ultraviolet): Measures Total Silymarin (flavonolignans). Standard market spec is 80% UV.
• HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography): Measures specific components (Silybin, etc.). Note that 80% UV is roughly equivalent to 50-60% HPLC. We provide both values on our COA for transparency.
Reference Chromatogram of Lactoferrin Reference Substance
The HPLC chromatogram clearly identifies the four major peaks: Silydianin, Silychristin, Silybin A, Silybin B, Isosilybin A, and Isosilybin B. The high peak area for Silybin confirms the quality of the raw material seed source.
Stability and Safety
Stability Studies
• Shelf Life: 36 months.
• Conditions: Silymarin is stable to heat and light in solid form.
• Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Safety & Handling (MSDS Summary)
• Classification: Non-hazardous substance.
• Safety: Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS). Side effects are rare (mild laxative effect at high doses).
• Handling: Wear dust mask.
• Storage: Keep container tightly closed.

FAQ
What is the difference between Silymarin and Silybin?
• Silymarin: The full complex extract (mixture of flavonolignans). • Silybin (Silibinin): The single most active and abundant component within Silymarin. We can isolate high-purity Silybin (95%+) for pharmaceutical use.
Which extraction solvent do you use?
We offer: • Acetone extracted: Higher yield, meets USP specs. • Ethyl Acetate extracted: "Greener" solvent profile. • Ethanol extracted: Food grade, suitable for organic/clean label.
Can you make it water soluble?
Yes. Native Silymarin is poor in water solubility. We offer a Water-Soluble Grade (complexed with solubilizers) specifically for liquid applications like functional shots and drops.
