Baicalein
Baicalein Powder | 98% Scutellaria Root Extract Headline: High-Purity Baicalein Manufacturer | 98% Aglycone Flavonoid (CAS: 491-67-8) Sub-info: Source: Scutellaria baicalensis (Root) | Assay: ≥98.0% (HPLC) | Appearance: Yellow Powder USP: Neuroprotective Agent • Potent Anti-Inflammatory • High Bioactivity (Aglycone)
Introduction

Baicalein (5,6,7-Trihydroxyflavone) is the biologically active aglycone form of Baicalin, extracted from the dried roots of Scutellaria baicalensis (Chinese Skullcap). Unlike its glycoside form (Baicalin), Baicalein exhibits superior lipid solubility and cell membrane permeability, making it highly bioavailable.
It is extensively researched for its pharmacological potential in reducing cerebral vascular resistance, inhibiting platelet aggregation, and exhibiting strong antiviral properties against respiratory viruses.

Functions
1.Neuroprotection & Cerebrovascular Health
Baicalein significantly reduces cerebral vascular resistance and increases cerebral blood flow. It protects neurons from ischemic damage and oxidative stress, showing promise in therapies for stroke recovery and neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's.
2.Anti-Viral & Anti-Inflammatory
It acts as a potent inhibitor of 12-lipoxygenase (12-LOX), a key enzyme in the inflammatory pathway. Studies also highlight its specific activity against various influenza viruses and coronaviruses by interfering with viral replication.
3.Anti-Cancer Potential
Research suggests Baicalein induces apoptosis in various cancer cell lines (hepatocellular, breast, lung) by modulating cell cycle arrest and suppressing tumor growth factors without significant toxicity to normal cells.

Applications
Pharmaceuticals (APIs):
• Stroke Recovery Drugs: Used as a raw material for drugs targeting cerebral ischemia.
• Anti-Viral Formulations: Investigated for acute respiratory tract infections.

Nutraceuticals:
• Brain Health Supplements: Formulated for cognitive support and neuroprotection.
• Sleep & Anxiety: Used for its GABAergic anxiolytic effects (calming without sedation).
Cosmetics:
• Anti-Allergy: Used in creams to inhibit histamine release and soothe atopic dermatitis.

Method of Analysis of Lactoferrin
We use High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with a C18 column and UV detection at 270nm.
• Distinction: We specifically separate Baicalein (Aglycone) from Baicalin (Glycoside) to ensure you receive the high-potency active form, not the cheaper starting material.
Reference Chromatogram of Lactoferrin Reference Substance
(Imagine a clean HPLC peak)
The chromatogram shows a single sharp peak at the retention time of Baicalein. Impurities such as Wogonin or Oroxylin A are minimal (<1%).

Stability and Safety
Stability Studies
• Shelf Life: 24 months.
• Light Sensitivity: Sensitive to light. Must be stored in light-resistant containers.
• Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Baicalein is stable in acidic conditions but can degrade in strong alkaline solutions.
Safety & Handling (MSDS Summary)
• Classification: Non-hazardous botanical isolate.
• Safety: Generally well-tolerated.
• Handling: Wear mask and gloves to prevent dust inhalation.

FAQ
What is the difference between Baicalin and Baicalein?
Baicalin is the glycoside form (sugar attached) found abundantly in the raw root. Baicalein is the aglycone form (sugar removed). Baicalein is more lipid-soluble, penetrates the blood-brain barrier more easily, and is generally considered more potent for neuroprotection and anti-cancer applications.
Is your Baicalein natural or synthetic?
It is Natural, derived from Scutellaria baicalensis roots via extraction and enzymatic hydrolysis.
Can it be used in skincare?
Yes. It is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It effectively inhibits Propionibacterium acnes and is used in high-end acne treatments and soothing serums.
