Introduction

P&K

Blueberry Anthocyanins are a group of potent bioflavonoids extracted from the fruit of Blueberries (Vaccinium spp.). While closely related to the European Bilberry, Blueberries offer a unique phytochemical profile rich in Malvidin and Delphinidin glycosides.

Our Blueberry Extract is standardized to 25% Anthocyanins, making it a premier ingredient for Vision Health Supplements, Antioxidant Superfoods, and Natural Colorants. We strictly control the sourcing of raw materials—using both Wild Blueberries (higher potency) and Cultivated Blueberries (stable supply)—to ensure consistent efficacy and taste.

Functions

1.Eye Health (Visual Fatigue)

Anthocyanins accelerate the regeneration of Rhodopsin (visual purple), a pigment in the retina essential for low-light vision. They help reduce eye strain caused by prolonged screen time (Computer Vision Syndrome) and improve night vision adaptation.

2.Microcirculation Support

Blueberry anthocyanins strengthen capillaries and reduce vascular permeability. This enhances blood flow to the eyes and extremities, potentially beneficial for diabetics (retinopathy prevention) and those with poor circulation.

3.Cognitive Function & Memory

Known as "Brain Berries," blueberries have been clinically shown to improve motor performance and working memory in older adults. The anthocyanins cross the blood-brain barrier to reduce neuro-inflammation.

Applications

1.Eye Care Supplements

• Target: Formulation for gamers, office workers, and seniors.

• Blend: Often combined with Lutein, Zeaxanthin, and Vitamin A.

• Claim: "Blue Light Defense," "Eye Strain Relief."

2.Functional Foods & Gummies

• Usage: Berry-flavored gummies or chewables.

• Benefit: Provides a natural deep purple color and specific health benefits, avoiding artificial dyes like Red 40 or Blue 1.

3.Beauty from Within

• Usage: Anti-aging drinks (Collagen boosters).

• Benefit: Anthocyanins inhibit collagenase and elastase enzymes, preventing the breakdown of skin struct.

Flow Chart

Membrane Filtration & Freeze Drying

1.Raw Material: Frozen Blueberries (Whole fruit).

2.Thawing & Crushing: Breaking cell walls to release juice.

3.Extraction: Acidified Ethanol/Water extraction (protects anthocyanin stability).

4.Centrifugation: Removing pulp and seeds.

5.Membrane Filtration: Ultra-filtration to remove sugars and concentrate the active pigment.

6.Purification: Resin adsorption chromatography (Macro-porous resin) to separate Anthocyanins.

7.Drying: Spray Drying or Freeze Drying (Lyophilization) for premium grades.

8.Sieving: 80 Mesh powder.

9.QC Testing: UV Assay, HPLC Profile, Heavy Metals.

10.Packing: 25kg Drums or 1kg Vacuum Bags.

Method of Analysis of Lactoferrin

UV-Vis vs. HPLC

• UV-Vis (535nm): The industry standard for trading. Measures Total Anthocyanins.

• HPLC (520nm): Used for Fingerprinting. A true Blueberry extract will show 15 distinct anthocyanin peaks. Adulterated products (e.g., with Black Rice) will show only 1 or 2 simple peaks (like C3G only). We provide HPLC chromatograms to prove authenticity.

Reference Chromatogram of Lactoferrin Reference Substance

The chromatogram displays a complex pattern of 15 major peaks, corresponding to the galactosides, glucosides, and arabinosides of Delphinidin, Cyanidin, Petunidin, Peonidin, and Malvidin. This "DNA-like" fingerprint confirms the source is genuine Vaccinium.

Stability and Safety

Stability Studies

• pH Sensitivity: Anthocyanins are natural pH indicators.

 ○ pH < 3: Stable, Red color.

 ○ pH 4-5: Unstable, Colorless/Fading.

 ○ pH > 7: Unstable, Blue/Green color.

• Formulation Tip: Best used in acidic beverages (pH < 3.5) or dry capsules/tablets. Avoid high heat during processing.

• Storage: Freeze or cool storage (< 20°C) recommended.

Safety & Handling (MSDS Summary)

• Classification: Non-hazardous food ingredient.

• Safety: GRAS. No known toxicity.

• Handling: Highly hygroscopic! Close bags immediately. Stains skin/clothing purple.

FAQ

What is the difference between Blueberry and Bilberry Extract?

• Bilberry (V. myrtillus): Wild European origin. Contains ~36% Anthocyanins. Very expensive. • Blueberry (V. corymbosum): Cultivated/Wild American/Asian origin. Contains ~25% Anthocyanins. More affordable. • Note: Blueberry skin is purple, flesh is white/green. Bilberry flesh is red/purple. We supply both extracts.

Is it suitable for gummies?

Yes, but you must manage the pH. Gummies usually have a pH of 3.0-3.5, which is perfect for maintaining the stability and red/purple color of the anthocyanins.

Can I call it "Wild"?

We have specific batches derived from Wild Blueberries (Vaccinium uliginosum). These have smaller berries and higher antioxidant levels than cultivated ones. Please specify if you need the "Wild" claim for your label.
