Introduction

Psyllium Husk Powder is the pulverized outer coating (husk) of the seeds from the Plantago ovata plant. It is globally recognized as one of the richest sources of soluble dietary fiber (containing over 80% fiber compared to <15% in oat bran).
We supply a premium 99% Purity Grade which is optically sorted to remove foreign matter, resulting in a cleaner, whiter powder ideal for premium supplements and light-colored bakery products. Unlike lower grades (85% or 95%), our Psyllium offers superior mucilage content, ensuring maximum gelling power and efficacy.

Functions
1. Digestive Health & Regularity (The "Broom")
Mechanism: Psyllium is a bulk-forming laxative. It absorbs water in the intestine to form a viscous gel-like mass that softens stools and promotes regular bowel movements without stimulating the gut lining (non-habit forming).
Prebiotic Effect: A portion of the fiber is fermented by gut bacteria, producing Short-Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs) beneficial for colon health.
2. Cholesterol & Heart Health
Bile Acid Sequestration: The viscous gel traps bile acids in the small intestine, increasing their excretion. This forces the liver to use circulating LDL cholesterol to produce more bile, thereby lowering serum cholesterol levels.
3. Blood Sugar Control
Glycemic Modulation: By increasing the viscosity of chyme, it slows down the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, blunting post-prandial blood glucose spikes.

Applications
Bakery (Gluten-Free & Keto):
• The "Gluten Mimic": Indispensable in gluten-free baking. It mimics the elasticity and structure of gluten, allowing breads to rise and holding moisture in cakes and cookies.
• Low Carb: Essential for Keto breads due to its near-zero net carb count.
Dietary Supplements:
• Fiber Powders: The main ingredient in famous brands (e.g., Metamucil).
• Capsules: For convenient daily fiber intake.
Functional Foods:
• Meal Replacements: Increases satiety (fullness) to aid in weight management.
Animal Nutrition:
• Equine Sand Clear: Used to help remove sand from the horse's gut to prevent colic.

Flow Chart
1.Raw Material: Sourcing of Plantago ovata seeds (India origin preferred).
2.Cleaning: Multi-stage cleaning to remove stones, dust, and stalks.
3.De-husking: Mechanical separation of the husk from the seed kernel.
4.Winnowing & Purification: Air classification to separate light husks from heavier impurities.
5.Grinding: Cryogenic or cool milling to preserve mucilage properties (40-100 mesh).
6.Sterilization: Steam sterilization to ensure low microbial count (Critical for Psyllium).
7.Sieving & Packing: Metal detection and vacuum packaging.

Method of Analysis of Lactoferrin
• Purity: Optical examination and Acid Insoluble Ash test.
• Swell Volume: Measured by adding 1g of powder to 100ml water and recording the volume of the gel layer after 4-24 hours. This is the key performance indicator for functionality.

Visual comparison shows our 99% Psyllium Husk Powder forming a distinct, firm gel layer (>50ml) compared to standard market grades (<40ml), indicating superior water-holding capacity.
Stability and Safety
Stability Studies
• Shelf Life: 24-36 months.
• Hygroscopicity: Highly hygroscopic. Must be stored in a cool, dry place. Exposure to humidity will cause clumping and loss of swelling power.
Safety & Handling (MSDS Summary)
• Choking Hazard: Like all high-fiber powders, it must be consumed with adequate fluid. Do not swallow dry powder.
• Allergen: Generally allergen-free, but "Psyllium allergy" (though rare) exists.
• Handling: Fine dust can be irritating to the nose/throat. Use dust masks during processing.

FAQ
What is the difference between Husk and Powder?
• Husk (Whole): Looks like small flakes. Used in horses or for texture in some breads. • Powder: Husk ground into fine flour (40-100 mesh). Stronger gelling power per gram because of increased surface area. Easier to mix into smoothies and doughs.
What mesh size should I choose?
• 40 Mesh: Coarser. Good for sprinkling or where texture is desired. • 100 Mesh: Very fine. Best for smooth drinks and baking (dissolves/mixes better without grittiness).
Is it irradiated?
We offer both Steam Sterilized (Non-Irradiated) and Irradiated options depending on your market regulations. Steam sterilization is the standard for "Clean Label" products.
