Phloretin
Phloretin Manufacturer | Natural Skin Whitening & Antioxidant Headline: Natural Phloretin Manufacturer | 98% Apple Skin Extract (CAS: 60-82-2) Sub-headline: High Purity Dihydrochalcone | Potent Skin Whitening & Transdermal Penetration Enhancer Unique Selling Proposition (USP): • Dual Action Skincare: Inhibits tyrosinase (whitening) while enhancing the absorption of other active ingredients. • Natural Source: Extracted from the peel/root bark of apples (Malus pumila), offering a clean label advantage over synthetic alternatives. • Potent Antioxidant: Scavenges free radicals and inhibits MMP-1, protecting skin from UV damage and aging.
Introduction

Phloretin (CAS: 60-82-2) is a dihydrochalcone, a type of natural flavonoid found exclusively in apples and apple-derived products. It appears as a white to off-yellow powder.
In the cosmetic industry, Phloretin is celebrated as a cutting-edge ingredient for "High-End" serums. Unlike common antioxidants, it has the unique ability to increase the penetration of other actives (like Vitamin C and Ferulic Acid) into the skin, creating powerful synergistic formulations. It is also a safe and effective skin lightener, targeting hyperpigmentation at multiple cellular levels.

Functions
1. Skin Whitening & Brightening
• Mechanism: Inhibits Tyrosinase activity and interferes with melanin synthesis.
• Action: Reduces the appearance of age spots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, resulting in a more even skin tone.

2. Penetration Enhancement
• Mechanism: Modifies the lipid potential of the stratum corneum.
• Action: Acts as a carrier, significantly improving the transdermal absorption of co-formulated ingredients, maximizing the efficacy of serums.

3. Antioxidant & Anti-Acne
• Mechanism: Scavenges ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) and exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity.
• Action: Protects against photo-aging and effectively combats Propionibacterium acnes, reducing acne breakouts.

Applications
1. Vitamin C Serums (CE Ferulic Dupe)
• Application: High-potency antioxidant serums.
• Why it works: Stabilizes L-Ascorbic Acid and boosts its photoprotective capabilities. The "Phloretin + Vitamin C + Ferulic Acid" combination is a gold standard in dermatology.
2. Whitening Creams
• Application: Night creams and spot correctors.
• Why it works: Provides a natural alternative to Hydroquinone with fewer side effects.
3. Moisturizers & Masks
• Application: Anti-aging lotions.
• Why it works: Its moisturizing properties (via increasing natural moisturizing factors) help maintain skin hydration while treating signs of aging.

Flow Chart
1.Raw Material: Selection of Apple Peel/Root Bark (Malus pumila).
2.Extraction: Ethanol/Water extraction.
3.Hydrolysis: Enzymatic or acid hydrolysis to remove glycosides (Phloridzin) if necessary to obtain the aglycone.
4.Filtration: Removal of pectin and insoluble fibers.
5.Purification: Adsorption chromatography to isolate Phloretin.
6.Crystallization: Recrystallization to achieve 98% purity.
7.Drying: Vacuum drying.
8.Milling: Size reduction to fine powder.
9.Packaging: 1kg/Bag or 25kg/Drum.
Quality Standard of Lactoferrin
Product: Phloretin 98%
Source: Malus pumila
| Item | Specification | Result |
| Appearance | White to off-white crystalline powder | Conforms |
| Assay (HPLC) | ≥ 98.0% | 98.5% |
| Loss on Drying | ≤ 1.0% | 0.4% |
| Heavy Metals (Pb) | ≤ 10 ppm | < 3 ppm |
| Arsenic (As) | ≤ 2 ppm | < 0.5 ppm |
Method of Analysis of Lactoferrin
Test Method: HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography)
• Column: C18 Reverse Phase.
• Mobile Phase: Acetonitrile : 0.1% Phosphoric Acid in Water.
• Wavelength: UV detection at 280 nm.
• Identity: Retention time matches Phloretin standard. Absence of Phloridzin (the glycoside) indicates successful hydrolysis/purification.
Reference Chromatogram of Lactoferrin Reference Substance
(Description)
The chromatogram shows a dominant single peak for Phloretin. Impurities related to other apple polyphenols (like Quercetin or Chlorogenic Acid) should be minimal (<1%).

Stability and Safety
Stability Studies
• Light Stability: Phloretin is sensitive to light. Exposure can cause discoloration (pinking).
• Solubility: Soluble in Ethanol, Methanol, and Propylene Glycol. Poorly soluble in water.
• Shelf Life: 24 Months when stored in cool, dark, and dry conditions.
Safety & Handling (MSDS Summary)
• Classification: Cosmetic Ingredient. Non-hazardous.
• Handling: Avoid contact with eyes.
• Storage: Protect from light. Store in a cool place.

FAQ
Is Phloretin water soluble?
No, it has very low water solubility. It must be pre-dissolved in a solvent like Ethanol, Propanediol, or Ethoxydiglycol before adding to the water phase of a formulation.
Can it be used with Retinol?
Yes, Phloretin is often used with Retinol to boost penetration and provide antioxidant protection against the irritation sometimes caused by Retinoids.
Is it safe for sensitive skin?
Generally yes, but due to its penetration-enhancing properties, it should be formulated carefully. It is less irritating than many other whitening agents like Hydroquinone.
